I did an online survey using a fake name and got a $5 check for it by mail. Is it possible for me to cash it?

The check is made out to the fake name. The name is made up. There's no such person. I don't have any ID in that name, except for some junk mail. What can I do? Thanks.

Next time alter your last name by one letter...they may let you cash it if the bank thinks it's a simple mistake. Especially if you can show ID with your address and name...
Reply:You are out 5 bucks... but you fooled them, so it was worth it.
Reply:Don't cash it. Legal or not, it's not worth it. I use my initial for both first and middle name whenever I don't want people to know my full name. And I cashed a check like that just fine.
Reply:Well the check is proably made out to the order of the fake name you used. Did you cash the check yet?
Reply:You should not have used a fake name if they reward for your opinion, really nothing can be done.

P.S. why give your real address, but a fake name?
